Immeuble de rapport

1, rue Sellenick et 64a, avenue des Vosges, Strasbourg in 1902-04 by LUTKE & BACKES

Located at the corner avenue des Vosges-rue Séllenick, this apartment building (1) witnesses the usual flor's hierarchy: street level dedicated to the shops, followed by the bel-étage (with a balcony that runs along both frontages), two common storeys, then the attic floor, and finally the garret level.
The main elevation assets itselfs thanks to both gables with dormer-windows topped by a capital shaped like a rose-bush. The appearance of symmetry is denied by the bays, each other being different. We successively can observe a bow-window, followed by an oriel, a flat bay and then a loggia.
Have a look to the window shops: one of them still keeps its frame made of carved wood.
Give a glance to the mascaron above the entrance door (2).
Also interesting are the brackets that stand the first floor's balcony.
One of the architects (Franz Lütke) settled here as soon as the building was achieved.

(1) Erected for Johann Moeller, audit accountant.
(2) Of quite awkard workmanship.
